Annabel de Frece
Centre for Food Policy
Annabel is a Teaching Fellow based in the Centre for Food Policy, City, University of London where she works with IFSTAL (‘Interdisciplinary Food Systems Teaching’), a postgraduate, multi-disciplinary, inter-university project, which aims to promote food systems thinking to address global food issues.
Annabel also works for the Centre for Development, Environment and Policy (CeDEP) at SOAS as an MSc Distance Learning Tutor teaching Gender and Social Inequality and also supervises dissertations.
She has researched and taught across a number of themes related to development, environment, agriculture and gendered constructions of food production with particular expertise in Latin America and West Africa. She is interested in exploring interdisciplinary research projects which investigate sites of multiple inequalities within the globalised food system, agrarian change and food security. Annabel has published on agricultural practices and cultural meanings of the Milpa in Mexico and on Farmers’ Cooperatives in Africa.
She has worked in India and Ghana and conducted her PhD fieldwork in Mexico. Annabel is also interested in pedagogy, the application of systems thinking and inter and transdisciplinary learning and research.
