Seminar: The beneficial effects of socio-economic and environmental development on malaria in Africa: an inadvertent side effect or an achievable planning objective?

Date and Time

Monday, December 16, 2013 - 12:30 to 13:30

Location: Upper Meeting Room, London International Development Centre, 36 Gordon Square, WC1H 0PD

Speaker: Dr. Jo Lines, Reader of Malaria Control and Vector Biology, LSHTM

Seminar abstract: This talk is about scientific strategies for building malaria out of Africa, using incremental modifications to the man-made rural environment. Politically, the time is right for malaria elimination to be included within national plans for economic development - but exactly what actions are needed to create a stable rural ecology where Anopheles gambiae is present but malaria is absent?
