LCIRAH history and looking forward

History of LCIRAH

The London International Development Centre (LIDC) brought together its specialist member Colleges of the University of London in an initiative to develop an agri-health platform.

This initiative received generous start-up funding from the Leverhulme Trust, as part of their programme "Embedding of Emerging Disciplines" aimed at developing the new clusters of academic disciplinary arrays that we will need for the 21st century.

A team of experts from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, School of Oriental and African Studies, School of Pharmacy, and Royal Veterinary College began to coordinate a five-year research programme. The idea was to develop an agri-health programme across all six LIDC Colleges and with external partners, whose members include natural scientists, economists, sociologists, anthropologists, policy specialists, and other disciplines from both the agricultural and health sectors.

Looking Forward

As LCIRAH enters its sixth year, it will continue the programme of research focused on six interlinking core themes. It will also proceed with its transformation from a collaboration on a time-bound grant to a formal and unique inter-collegiate collaboration. Establishing this new arrangement will secure LCIRAH for the future.
